Our students are at the centre of health care planning

Health & Wellbeing

Infectious illnesses

If your child has an infectious condition, you may need to keep them home from school to stop it spreading.

You can find more information on what to do when your child is unwell at the Health Direct website.

Childhood immunisations

You are required to provide a copy of your child’s Australian Immunisation Record (AIR) form on application for enrolment.

For a Kindergarten enrolment, your child’s immunisation status must be up-to-date according to their AIR immunisation History Statement.

You can access your child’s AIR form by logging into Medicare online via MyGov using the Medicare Express Plus app visiting a Medicare or Centrelink office, or calling the AIR General Enquiries Line on 1800 653 809.

You can find more information in regards to immunisations here - Starting child care or kindergarten parent fact sheet (PDF).

No hat, no play policy

In the interests of your child’s health and well-being, our school has a “no hat, no play in the sun” policy which operates for the entire school year.

Baynton West Dental Therapy Clinic

Dental Therapy Centres provide free general and emergency dental care for students who attend a school recognised by the WA Dept of Education. Eligible students are aged 5 to 16 or until the end of Year 11, whichever comes first.

You can contact them on 9183 8172 or visit their website.

School Psychologist

A school psychologist based in Karratha services our school. The psychologist is available to assist children with educational, emotional or behavioural difficulties. Referrals are managed by the school leadership team in co-ordination with class teachers.

Community Nurse

The school has access to a Community Nurse. The nurse, when on site, advises on the treatment of minor injuries and illnesses, as well as conducting screening sessions (eyesight etc.), immunisation courses and provides specialist health advice to teachers and children.

Children who injure themselves or who fall ill during the course of the school day are initially attended to in the playground or the office.

Parents will be contacted if we believe the child should not remain at school. Parents are asked to ensure that emergency contact numbers are accurately maintained at all times.

Medication

The safety and wellbeing of our students is our top priority. If your child requires medication during the school day, please ensure it is handed in at the front office. All medication must be clearly labelled with your child’s name and dosage instructions. If a doctor has provided an action plan, we kindly ask that this is submitted along with the medication. You can find more information in the Department of Education Student Health Care info sheet.
